Welcome to my eleventh monthly income report on How I Make a Living Online.
Each month I will publish my revenues, expenses, learnings, activities and various statistics on how I make a living online.

What Happened in April?

The joy and not so much joy of starting a start-up again has been an emotional roller coaster ride of late, especially this month.

I am always thinking of when will be the day I finally make a living from my endeavors. When will I start seeing my bank account go up again.

Which causes me to question things ,decisions and priorities, which in turn causes a lot of procrastination.

The mind is a bitch

This battle is overwhelming. The path of a start-up founder is very challenging, treacherous and unforgiving. It ain’t like anything I can explain that can come close on how hard this is.

We risk everything, our fortunes, relationships, friendship, somethings love, sanity, health, emotions and our life.

It is a strange game we play.

I need to get out of my head.

Over the years I have found that the combination of affirmations, meditation and routines have rescued me from myself and allowed to get back on track faster.

Daily Affirmations

The use of daily affirmations has really been a great life hack that I’ve learnt from the book Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill. If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it. It is not just a book for getting rich, the theory can be applied to anything.

Honestly when I first read the book, I never really understood the true benefits of affirmation until now.

The way I do my affirmations is simply as soon as I wake up I would sit down and write what my current goals are.

I usually just write three goals that I am currently working on, as I have come to realise that there are just not enough time in a day to work on all of my dreams at the same time.

It really sets up my day on a positive note and it reminds me on the reasons on why I do what I do everyday.

Some of things I have achieved in the past 12 months include

  • Winning Best Speech and Table Topics for Toastmasters (If you want to learn public speaking – highly recommended)
  • Learn to Snowboard
  • Run the City 2 Surf within 100 minutes
  • Starting my Digital Empire again

Meditation

I started meditation at the beginning of the year.

I have to admit though I have always doubted whether meditation could help with my performance and focus.

But for whatever reason, 4 months ago I just decided to give it a go. At first I felt nothing special apart from a slight sense of been high, which is a good feeling, maybe I was just breathing more!

However after 2 months of daily practice, I started to notice one thing, I was more “present” in life and work.

I think what it has done was get me get out of my head and stop me from “thinking too much”. As when I think too much it is then which causes me to procrastinate, become anxious and in many ways depressed.

I actually meditated before writing this post and have literally churned out 500 words in this hour of writing. Yeah slow but for me that’s a tonne of work.

I currently meditate for 10 minutes each morning using the App Calm.

Routine

I have come to realise having a routine has help reduced the stress in my life and keep me moving forward on days that I struggle with my mind.

I use to think routine was the killer of freedom, but actually it is the saviour.

You see when your live a life of randomness you have to constantly “Think” of what to do. So your mind is constantly working which drains you of energy and concentration.

But when you have a routine, all you have to do is execute the plan.

It reminds me of a cartoon I use to watch as a kid – Pinky and the Brain.

Every episode it starts off with Pinky asking Brain “What are we going to do Today” and Brain always replies “What we do every day, try to take over the world”

Business Update

My business has remained status quo at the moment as I try to keep on top of all my tasks and projects under control.
Some days I felt I was drowning in paper, to do list and emails.

Digital Agency

This month I started to see some recurring income to drip in, though not much but I am excited to see that I am finally creating some form of predictable income in my business.

A lot of time was spent on working on servicing my customer developments.

This left little time spent on actually growing the business, which I know is a mistake.

So I have decided that in order to focus on my business I will allocate a few hours each week solely focus on working on the sales, marketing and operations processes in the business no matter what.

I have to be my own customer too.

Niche Websites and Blogging

Overall income had started to dry up in both my Niche Websites and Blogging Projects as they take a back seat in my priorities.

I realise in order to get these moving forward something have to change as there just ain’t enough time.

My goals for the next few months is to start outsourcing large chunks of my writing for my Niche Websites.

Plus I have decided to drop my weekly blogging posts to once a month and focus on writing larger size articles and published then on a quarterly basis.
